Welcome Minimize

Welcome to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office website. This website will identify the units within the Sheriff's Office and their purpose. We hope that you find it informational and useful.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff Rich Martin, who has been in Law Enforcement in the public, private, recreational and judicial sectors for over 20 years. In his first term as Lake County Sheriff, he leads an office of over 100 sworn and/or deputized personnel to include: road patrol, detective bureau, recreational division, dive team, county jail, state residential re-entry program (LCRRP), reserve division, civil division and animal control.

The men and women of the Lake County Sheriff's Office are committed to serving the citizens of our county in a fair and professional manner. Our mission statement:  "Providing exceptional public safety services while serving with Honor, Integrity and Dedication to those who live, work, and visit Lake County."

Lake County, Michigan is 625 square miles located in the northwestern part of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, 80 miles north of Grand Rapids. Home to 200,000 acres of public-owned land, Lake County is intersected by two major highways, US-10 and M-37.

Lake County is well known for its many annual events including Baldwin’s “Original” Blessing of the Bikes in May, the Irons Flea Roast and Ox Market in June, West Michigan’s Longest Yard Sale also in June, Troutarama, Luther Days, and the Idlewild music festival in July, and the Salmon Run (5K & 10K) in October.

We are blessed with over 100 lakes of all shapes and sizes. We also have several blue ribbon class trout rivers known for their trout and salmon fishing. The Pere Marquette, the Pine, and the Little Manistee are the most popular. The Pere Marquette and the Pine are two of the 16 National Wild and Scenic Rivers in Michigan.

Our county has over 300 miles of ATV/ORV trails with easy on/off access. There are the four trail systems within Lake County, complete with trailhead parking and staging areas.
